WSB-99, The Nurburgring, Germany

Jus and me had never ridden abroad on our own bikes and so it had always been on the 'list of things to do'. So we decided that, since we enjoyed going to the UK rounds of the World Super-Bike so much, that we'd ride off to one of the european rounds also. Assen was the obvious choice but unfortunately, since I was due to move overseas to work at the end of June, we decided to pick either Misano or The Nurburgring. The Nurburgring won out as I had a court date looming with a potential ban. By choosing the German WSB I was able to schedule the court date to the day before I left for the States (HA HA-so I was bothered about the outcome- fucking Nazis! as it happens it was just a hefty fine and 6 points.)
Anyway, it turned out in the end that only Jus and me could make it, as Weags had work commitments. (Can certainly sympathise there!)

The trip went smoother and better than we had thought it was going to. It didn't rain a drop the whole time (except for a light shower on raceday morning-which coupled with a horrific hangover(vodka red bulls-never again!)kept us from throwing ourselves all around the Nordschleife.) The hotel Dorint was right on the side of the track overlooking the start-finish line/Coca-Cola curve - result! We even avoided getting nicked by the german rozzers outside the circuit. Apparently they were nicking loads of people with loud exhausts and confiscating the end cans!!

Anyway I could go on and on, but the only other cool thing I will add that happened is that the Dorint has a glass elevator running up from the reception/bar area. As we were waiting to go down for a meal, up came the lift and who should step out but The Fogster himself! An added bonus to a wicked time!(bloody hell, he's tiny!)

Over the weekend I have to say I think we found the best road I have ever scratched on. The N40 in Belgium between Libramont and Wellin. What a crack! Thats where we stopped on the way back and took some of these photos.

Needless to say, we WILL be going back there!!

10th-14th June'99

Outside Jud's, getting ready. As you can see, the weather was shite...NOT! Talk about a room with a view! ..."hello, room service? yeah more beer for 22d, danke"
And...they're off The Man, out on his own, as usual!
Gaaawn my saaahn!! Yup, we were true Brits abroad. Hangin' off the balcony with a Union Jack and air horns to boot!(cringe) On the way home. Jus absorbing the wonderous scenery-yeah right.
Bored with two wheels? well try the one sir. Ooh, suits you sir My turn now. It was nice to ditch the luggage for a bit of a ding-dong.
Oops, slipped that clutch again Oh well, time to load up again. We'll be back though.
(Another food stop.) We stopped here on the way down as well. Arlons, in Belgium, very pretty it was too.
All that remained from here was a mental blast across Belgium and France on the E42 averaging 130-140. Only one close call really, when Jus nearly tail-ended me. We were hacking along when, as we went passed a huge arctic, there was a police motor tucked in in front. Sneaky cunts. Glad it was me in front as I think Jus had a moment-it's never a good thing when your almost nose to tail at 140mph on a straight, seemingly clear road and the guy in front slams on full anchors. Still, we're alive ain't we! (Mind you, the funny thing was that by the time we'd slowed to around 70mph Jus was dead level with their window looking straight at a couple of very unimpressed froggy coppers-hahahaha, priceless.) You know, it's a good thing he has no editorial control over this.
